As with any surgical procedure, the recovery process for rhinoplasty varies from person to person. Here’s a general idea of what to expect after a rhinoplasty, along with some tips to make your recovery as comfortable and pain-free as possible:

2 to 3 days after rhinoplasty

During this time, you will experience moderate pain and swelling. Nausea can also happen right after surgery. This is usually due to a combination of anesthesia and swallowing blood. We recommend that patients sleep on their backs with a pillow elevating their head above the heart to limit swelling.

1 week after rhinoplasty

You can return to your normal daily activities, but you should still avoid lifting. Splints/stitches are usually taken away at the week’s end. Any bruising/swelling will be greatly reduced, but it will still be difficult to view the end result of the surgery.

2 weeks after rhinoplasty

Any swelling is reduced to the point of imperceptibility. You will return to work midway through the second week. Light training can be resumed.

3 weeks after rhinoplasty

Now the swelling has subsided to the point where you’re happy with what they’re seeing and confident in all your social interactions. However, nasal congestion may still be present, albeit much better than the first week.

1 month after rhinoplasty

You can return to normal (moderate) physical activity and physical activity. The swelling above the bridge of the nose has improved, but the tip of the nose remains swollen and poorly defined.

3 months after rhinoplasty

80% of the swelling is gone, but the tip of the nose still feels numb and very stiff.

1 year after rhinoplasty

Most of the nasal swelling has disappeared. The tip looks better. However, the final result can take up to 2 or 3 years, depending on the thickness of your skin and how many surgeries you have had. This is especially true for revision rhinoplasty patients.
