Before undergoing a rhinoplasty, there are several steps a patient needs to take to prepare for the procedure. The first step involves a detailed consultation with Dr. Sajjadi, where the patient will discuss his or her goals. Any necessary laboratory tests, such as a blood test, will be given at this time.
Patients will also undergo a physical examination, where Dr. Sajjadi will examine the skin and the inside and outside of the nose to determine what changes he needs to make during surgery. It is important during this time that the patient discusses his or
her medical history with Dr. Sajjadi to identify any risk factors. For example, a history of breathing problems or nasal obstruction could affect the success of the procedure.
Prior to surgery, photos of the patient’s nose from several different angles will be taken. Dr. Sajjadi and computer simulations will be made and desired changes will be made and planned together with the patient present in different angles.
will ask the patient to prepare for rhinoplasty by avoiding certain medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, for up to 2 weeks prior to and after surgery to lower the risk of increased bleeding during the procedure. Stopping smoking 8 weeks before surgery will decrease the risk of infection and speed up the healing process.
Since rhinoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure that requires anesthesia, Dr. Sajjadi may ask the patient to make arrangements for someone to drive him or her home after surgery. A friend or family member should also stay with the patient for 1 to 2 days after surgery to assist with day-to-day responsibilities as they recover.
